The German International University (GIU) Berlin proudly hosted the Annual Economic Forum and Local Champions Awards Ceremony of the Berlin district of Reinickendorf, bringing together approximately 250 business leaders, policymakers, industry representatives, and innovators to strengthen collaboration between academia, research, and industry.

Held under the patronage of Emine Demirbüken-Wegner, Mayor of Reinickendorf, the event welcomed representatives from more than 66 German companies operating across advanced technology and industrial sectors, alongside distinguished guests, members of the business community, and a high-level Egyptian media delegation.

In her opening remarks, Mayor Demirbüken-Wegner praised GIU Berlin as a distinguished German-Egyptian academic institution that has earned both national and international recognition since its establishment. She described the university as a successful model that connects higher education with industry, scientific research, and innovation while fostering international collaboration.

The Mayor emphasized that hosting the forum at GIU Berlin reflects the district's commitment to strengthening the relationship between universities and the labor market by creating opportunities for students and researchers to engage with real industrial challenges. She also highlighted the university's state-of-the-art infrastructure, modern laboratories, and advanced facilities in artificial intelligence, robotics, and emerging technologies, which provide an ideal environment for technological innovation and entrepreneurship.

The forum featured a keynote address by Prof. Dr. Ashraf Mansour, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the German University in Cairo (GUC) and the German International University (GIU), who reflected on the journey that began with the establishment of GUC in 2002 and later expanded with the launch of GIU in 2018. He described the decision to establish the universities as one of the most significant milestones of his professional career, reaffirming his vision of creating institutions that bridge Egypt and Germany through education, research, and innovation.

Prof. Mansour highlighted the success of the universities' transnational education model, which combines academic excellence with practical industry engagement. He emphasized that GIU Berlin provides a comprehensive ecosystem where master's and doctoral students collaborate with industrial partners to address real-world challenges, transforming scientific research into practical solutions that support innovation and economic development.

He also showcased the university's advanced infrastructure, including its 40,000-square-meter innovation and industrial complex equipped with cutting-edge technologies in robotics, artificial intelligence, additive manufacturing, laser technologies, and digital production. This environment enables students, researchers, and industry partners to collaborate on projects that advance scientific research while responding to the evolving needs of the industrial sector.

Reaffirming the university's commitment to strengthening Egyptian-German cooperation, Prof. Mansour announced continued efforts to connect final-year student projects, master's research, and doctoral studies with German industry. He also invited companies to collaborate with the university by offering internships, research opportunities, and innovation partnerships that prepare graduates for successful international careers.

The event also featured an exhibition of student innovations, graduation projects, and smart technology solutions, showcasing the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit of GIU Berlin students. In addition, the Local Champions Awards recognized three outstanding companies selected from among thirty innovative startups and businesses in Reinickendorf for their exceptional contributions to the district's economic development.

As one of Reinickendorf's flagship annual economic events, the forum serves as an important platform for dialogue between government, academia, and the private sector. By hosting this distinguished gathering, GIU Berlin reaffirmed its role as a catalyst for innovation, research excellence, and international collaboration, while continuing to strengthen the longstanding partnership between Egypt and Germany through education, science, and industry.
