Scope & Purpose:

Under the direct supervision of the Head of the Electrical Engineering Department and the academic staff, the Lab Engineer will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, and development of the Electric Motors and Drives Laboratory. The laboratory supports faculty research projects, postgraduate research, and undergraduate bachelor thesis projects. The successful candidate will also support electric motor prototyping, manufacturing, assembly, testing, and characterization activities.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities :
1. Ensure safe operation of all laboratory equipment and facilities.
2. Operate, maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot electric motor testing equipment, power electronic converters, motor drives, and measurement systems.
3. Prepare laboratory setups for research projects and undergraduate bachelor thesis activities.
4. Support the design, assembly, manufacturing, and testing of electric machine prototypes.
5. Conduct electrical, thermal, mechanical, and performance testing of electric motors and drive systems.
6. Support commissioning and operation of motor test benches, dynamometers, inverters, and data acquisition systems.
7. Assist faculty members and researchers in experimental validation and laboratory investigations.
8. Coordinate procurement of laboratory equipment, materials, and components.
9. Coordinate with equipment vendors regarding installation, maintenance, repair, and technical support.
10. Maintain laboratory inventory and documentation of equipment, procedures, and testing activities.
11. Supervise students working in the laboratory and support undergraduate bachelor thesis projects.
12. Develop and maintain laboratory operating procedures and safety guidelines.
13. Support research projects and industrial collaborations.
14. Undertake other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the department.

Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree in Electronics and/or Electrical Engineering or equivalent.

Experience :
Hands-on Experience in electric machines, motor drives, power electronics, or related engineering fields through industry, research projects, laboratory work, internships, or academic activities is highly desirable.

Special Skills :
1. Strong knowledge of electric machines, including induction motors, synchronous machines, permanent magnet machines, and reluctance motors.
2. Knowledge of motor drives, power electronic converters, and control systems.
3. Hands-on experience with electric motor testing, characterization, and troubleshooting.
4. Familiarity with motor manufacturing processes, winding techniques, assembly procedures, and prototype development.
5. Experience with laboratory instrumentation, sensors, oscilloscopes, power analyzers, and measurement equipment.
6. Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings.
7. Experience with engineering software such as MATLAB/Simulink, JMAG, ANSYS, Motor-CAD, or similar tools is an advantage.
8. Ability to work independently and support multiple research and student projects simultaneously.
9. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Arabic.
10. Strong organizational, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
